Epson Perfection V700

Wow. Finally, we are back in action with a film scanner.  I have scanned maybe 150 images tonight with zero editing.  I now have an Epson Perfection V700.   Two features of this scanner that got me particularly excited: Dual lenses and twelve slides scan capability.

The photos during the rest of the year will be random work that has been taken and possibly not seen at all.

Atlanta change...

Atlanta has an initiative to make itself more tourist friendly. The city enjoyed tourist traffic during and after the 1996 Olympics.

New signs and bus routes are being created to help newcomers get around. In addition, the Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Zoo have attracted international attention.

I have been quiet here lately, but things are moving full steam ahead. I have purchased a Sony Hi-MD Audio Recorder for future podcasts and slideshow presentations. Please look forward to audio interviews with other photographers from around the U.S. and abroad.

Todays first photo was taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens a couple of weeks ago. If you have an opportunity to visit, it is quite a pleasure. This seasons exhibit is called Niki in the Garden. There website is www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org The exhibit runs through the end of October 2006. This exhibit was put on by internationally renowned artist Niki de Saint Phalle.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is absolutely beautiful and there is plenty for a photographyer to photograph. I have become infatuated with shooting hummingbirds that have been making some appearances in the garden. This is one of my better photos of this elusive bird. I am still not quite satisfied but I am getting closer to the results I have visualized.

One of the lessons I have learned in these last two weeks is you really have to take your time when you have visualized getting a photo. This is especially true when shooting nature photos. I thought at the time that I was moving at a relatively slow pace, but once I saw the results, I knew the truth. Some areas of the garden where I have spent five to ten minutes in the past will have to be revisited for longer periods of time.

I will be uploading more photos from the garden as they are scanned.

Downtown Atlanta Architecture

This is the Equitable Building. I once was threatened with arrest for trying to take photos of this building. Not that much going on in there. This is a Starbucks, Magazine store, small restraunt, Kinkos, a bunch of law offices and other business offices here.

I know there are about thirty (30) different law enforcement offices within a half a mile radius of this building so I wouldn't be surprised if the GBI or something also had an office here. But I don't know. Perhaps one day I will go in and see.

Atlanta architects like reflective windows. I believe this is because the density of buildings here is small. This is changing however, and you may very only see the reflections of other buildings in the future. There is a bulding craze happening all over Atlanta/Midtown and Buckhead business districts.

I believe this buiding is called Centennial Tower. I know they have some type of Medical School here for Community College/Tech College students. I always see those blue and pink outfits coming out of here. There is also a mom & pop photolab in this building that needs the business. The building is located near Centennial Park where the Olympic bombing occurred.

All of the above buildings are within about eight blocks of each other.
